CD Drive Access Problem

I can no longer explore the CD drive contents, nor can I
display them through My Computer. Nothing shows, no drop-
down, nothing. An auto-run installation CD will still
install programs. However, if there are drivers involved,
and the installation program has to go back to the CD to
get and install the driver, it fails. I originally
started to install the computer on a network, but aborted
the installation. I think the problem started after this,
but I am not sure. I have tried everything I can think of
to isolate and fix this problem. One last note, I can
right click on the CD and copy the contents and then paste
them to the desktop.

HELP!

Recently ran into something similar on a client's machine - she had a
lot of viruses and spyware. She opted for a format and clean install,
but you might want to just start with being sure your computer is
clean.
