When I write files to a CD using the built-in XP software, the file on the CDR gets the current date/time rather than the date/time associated with the original file. Is there any setting in XP that will change this, so that the file on the CDR has the same date/time as the original file?

Hi,

No, there isn't. This is a default behavior that cannot be changed. To
retain the original date requires the use of third party CD writing
software.

Not if you use the inbuilt burning. The reason is that this starts with
Explorer copying the files to a holding area, and as far as Explorer is
concerned this makes them new files, dated as of now, in line with its
normal methods.
