My CD burner is useless. I have wasted several CD's trying to burn. I have
checked services and Changed to automatic. Until I try to burn and the
burning program shows completed but the disk doesn't work. I check services
again and cd burning is stopped. It cannot get services to stay started.

I purchased nero 6 but it does not work either!
Please help.

Check the cables and connections. If that doesn't help, try the burner in
another computer and see if it is the burner.

Also, check the jumper on the back of the burner and make sure it is set for
the connector it is on. It should be master and attached to the end
connector on the cable.

Tried both ideas. The burner works on other computer but not running xp. I
have 3 burners and all work but not on xp! Nero burns 1 disk but only partail
files. Any other attempts fail.

The jumpers are set correctly to the position allocated. Still doesn't work.
Everything worked fine until I changed to xp. I installed fresh with full
version and now I got the problem.

Do you know how to check the device in the Device Manager?

This may be useless, but I had the same trouble with a NEW DVD Burner labeled
capable of burning CD-R discs. I bought a pack of 50 from the place that sold
me the machine. I went thru 10 then went to Walmart after reading about DVD
ROM, DVD +R etc.. and got a small pack of DVD +R disks. And guess what now Nero
and any other software that can write to a DVD,CD disk works just fine.
I now have cases of 50 DVD+R and CD+R

I disable the internal cd writing and now nero works perfectly.

Thank you very much for your help!

Please explain how you disabled the internal cd writing. We have the same
problem on one of our XP PCs.
