Did you run an upgrade from earlier version of Windows, if so did you perform
a compatibility check and note down any issues?

You'll need to check on driver files first of all. However having just
installed XP there are dozens of Automatic Updates to be applied. Run all of
these, then check through all the hardware updates and after all the updates
are applied, and if it is still not reading CDs, check the builders
[manufacturer's web page] for any updates.

If you still can't find any, try putting in a music CD and playing it: or
another data CD. If nothing works, get a cleaning CD.

If it's still 'dead' buy a new one.

Apparently, while installing it, the CD must have fell on your
keyboard and hit the Caps Lock key. Try pressing it again to turn it
off and then repost your problem in a civilized manner. QUIT YELLING
at us.
