Any advice depends on what you want to do.

Personally I like Deep Burner.

I do too.
There's also a portable version, DeepBurner Free Portable, which can work
straight from the USB drive and does not need installation.

This looks to be nothing more than a zipped copy of an "already
installled" folder, complete with the INSTALL.LOG file. I wonder if there
is anything different than installing it yourself and copying the folder
to a USB drive. More important, does it litter the registry?

I tried the USB-version for the first time today.
Seems to me that you're 99% right.
The footprint in the registry is, however, very small, as far as I can see.

Hi,

Read my comments at: http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=438
reproduced here for your benefit:

"Writes settings to: Windows registry. Despite the claim that the portable
edition writes settings to the application folder, I find that it still writes
to the Windows registry and user profile folder. However, the number of settings
is small and non-crucial, so I think it can be accepted as portable."

I think my findings support the claim that it is simply a "zipped copy of an
"already installled" folder. :-)

Regards.
