I'm not sure WHAT I did to my computer, but now my computer doesn't recognize
either the D or E drives. I don't know what to do! Can anyone help?

Please respond to (e-mail address removed)

thanks

Hi MW,

If the drives don't appear in My Computer but DO appear in Device Manager,
see if you receive an error message when you view them in Device Manager. If
so, see if the information in this MSKB article helps you to resolve the
problem:

You can no longer access the CD drive or the DVD drive, or you receive an
error message after you remove a CD recording program or a DVD recording
program in Windows XP: "error code 31"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/314060/en-us

Although only error code 31 is stated in the title of the article, it is
applicable to other error messages which are listed in the body of the
article.

If you don't want to manually edit the registry, you can d/load and run the
registry patch that is available here:
http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php#problems
(look at the second "problem")
