Jake B.

I made the mistake of posting a question here earlier
today, as I'm now getting a LOT of spam and phony email
that looks like it came from microsoft support, but upon
further inspection is from various sources.

Beware.

Thanks for identifying the type of emails I'm getting,
those infected with swen.

I would have to say that my computer is NOT infected with
swen, since I'm able to run regedit and do not have any of
the keys listed on the various virus profile pages. I've
never opened any of the emails, just deleted them, and I
also already have the latest patches on my system for
christ's as well as my own sake.

I guess it was just coincidental that I got a small group
of swen carrying email (disguised on the surface as
microsoft support) just after my post here.

Jake

By the way, NEVER use your real email address in the newgroups. YOU WILL be
bombarded by spammers.

They have servers that scan for email addresses. If you use something like

(e-mail address removed) or bill at hotmail dot com or (e-mail address removed)
( and say for someone to u n z i p it and many other ways, if it is picked
up it be bounced of some server back to them.

good luck,
don

Beware.

Your system is infected and it has absolutely nothing to do
with this newsgroup. Search Google for "Swen worm".

And install or update your antivirus software for chrissakes.

Jake,
Most of the email you get from spammers is to varify you have a "warm"
address, as in "not cold""dead". And then they sell them on CD's as "Fresh
email addresses" for say a tenth of a cent apiece. they get 1,000,000
addresses x .0001 x 10,000 sold equals $1million dollars (gross) what a
shame..

Jake, be careful; there are some tough 13 year old kids out there.

The source *is* from this newsgroup, as I created an email addy solely for
use here, and I too have been recieving mailed garbage and virii.

The only way you can catch a virus from a newsgroup is by
opening or running an attachment to a post. Period.

No coincidence at all. Address harvesters are working these groups
constantly, collecting new targets. I set up a new throw-away address
yesterday, and 12 hours after posting a couple of articles had received 38
"Microsoft update" messages, most with probable virus attachments.

A question about all this incoming spam ...

The header is forged but all the links in the spam point to:
http://www.health-products2003.com/
I'd say it's a good guess that they did it or paid someone to do so.

How about bombarding their website with requests until it crashes?
I'm very tired of all of this crap in my mailbox.
What are my options ?

What kind of an "ad" is this ? They don't even spell what they want to sell
??
With corrupt headers, no ISP cares - I think bombarding the sender's
website is a good ides ... any pointers ?

Sure crash their webserver if you can, if you are that angry go for it... I
hate these spams too...

A more immediate solution would be to set up rules to look for specific
words in the e-mail like V@L1UM or X@NAX and automatically move them to
deleted items. This applies only if you use outlook/outlook express or
some other e-mail client that supports rules.

Hope this helps!

The blacklist on them through Sam Spade, shows that
everything they do is bounced to the hilt, so you going to
need to do some more homework to nail them, if you want to
do it.

These types really urk me also. They would have no need to
bounce every inbound unless they fear retaliation.

Shouldn't be that hard to find him.
