A few months ago I had a problem with my home computer (Dell 4600) where I
was unable to connect to the internet. After doing a bunch of tests,
including the ipconfig /renew procedure, I eventually had to run "netsh
winsock reset" to recover from Winsock2 corruption (thanks to my cable
technical support guy for the pointers). I recently had exactly the same
problem on my work laptop and resolved it the same way. Both systems run XP
Professional with the latest patches. Now I'm wondering how common this
problem is and if it is a known problem with XP. Is there a specific piece of
software that may be the cause of it (I like to blame Norton but my work PC
uses something else). No one else in my office, including our two IT people,
had ever run into it before.
