Categories-Name-Rename-No Color-On the fly

Is there a way to be able to type a category name in the field on the fly
like in 03 without having to create a Color Category and then selecting the
checkbox? Is there a way to change the category name by simply typing over
the old one like in 03 instead of having to bring up the color codes,
unselecting the one that is there and then either selecting or creating a new
one and then selecting it?

I would love to turn the color's off and have it work like it did in 03
