catagory view - date periods

How do I make the catagories view calculate for only a certain date period?

How do I print the catagories view for only a certain date period?
 
In both cases, the answer is to add a filter to the view -- View | (Arrange
By) | Current View | Customize Current View | Filter. If you need to use the
same filter often, consider adding a new named view.
