Can anyone please tell me how to capture video directly on my screen (e.g. a
clip that plays on a website but cannot be saved or downloaded). I know I
can do this for images (Alt-PrintScreen) but I don't know how to do this for
video.

If WMP is open and playing the clip,go to file upper L.corner, then
select,save as.

Yes, that would be too easy. The clip is usually playing inside a web
browser (using either wmp plug-in or quicktime plug-in or real plug-in) with
no provision to "Save As..." the clip. That's why I need to "capture" the
video. Any ideas?

Snagit
Camtasia Studio

After trying for ages I settled on video out (SVHS) to Analog (SVHS) in on
my camcorder - quality is surprisingly good!

I am curious. As an avid gamer, sometimes I want to record a portion of the
game to show to buddies or to save for posterity reasons. Using vista and wmp
am i able to do so??? Or is there anything in the new software that gives me
such capability?? Or must I get yet another proggie????

You can use a program that records the video and audio directly from the
screen. I found one here www.hyperionics.com called hypercam. it takes it and
saves it as a avi. the only downfall is that it records at the exact screen
resolution you are looking at. so if you are trying to record off youtube or
something, it looks pretty crappy when blown up. but it does work.

If it is a video from YouTube that you want, you can actually download it.
There is a plug-in for Firefox that will do it, or, in the address bar, you
can substitute "youtube.com" for "get2pc.com". Eg:
"http://www.youtuve.com/watch?v=SZ85G--PURM&feature=dir" becomes
"http://www.get2pc.com/watch?v=SZ85G--PURM&feature=dir". And that page will
provide you with a download link. You then have to save it as a .flv (Flash
video) file. Then you either need an FLV viewer or a good converted (don't
count on finding a good free one).
