Caption numbering

Dear all,

I use Word 2002, SP2.

When I insert a caption, e.g. for a table, it automatically starts with
number one, e.g., Table 1.

Can I change this? The situation is, that I have a document that will
contain more than 200 tables on about 700 pages, so I am "forced" to spilt
the document into several ones. So the first document is not problem. Let's
say it holds the tables: Table 1 to Table 43. In the second document, how do
I start with the number 44 for the first caption I insert? Can it be done?

Thanks in advance.

Hi =?Utf-8?B?T2xlIEplcHBlc2Vu?=,

Caption numbering is controlled by SEQ fields. Alt+F9 will toggle between the
field codes, and the field results. So Alt+F9 to see the SEQ (and other)
fields.

For the first SEQ field in the document, insert the /r 44 switch to force
numbering from this point on to begin with 44. Alt+F9 again to hide the fields;
Ctrl+A, F9 to force them to update.
