I've been writing CDRs now for a few months, and thought I'd try out the
CDRWs. I tried burning an image file using MagicIso Maker V3.6 Build 0067,
to the CDRW but the resulting CD was blank.

I then fired up Roxio Creator Classic V6.0.0.171, and still did not see
anything on the disk, using the menu Disc\Disc Information. But the main
screen of Creator, bottom-right, shows the message "Please Insert A Blank
Disc".

I then proceeded to write a few files to the CDRW using Creator, and got the
following error message:

This disc is HIGH SPEED CDRW media and the recorder is not capable of
recording data to it

I find this an amazing message. I can use any speed CDR in the drive, but it
seems the CDRW media has to be exactly speed-matched to the drive. But how
can that be if the drive is an 8x and the media says "Upto 12x guaranteed".

What's going on here?

Sorry.

Forgot to add details:

WinXP SP1, Sony CDRW CRX140E, Datastream Upto 12x speed guaranteed, 80 min
CDRW.

The message you are getting from Creator is correct. Your drive is not
capable of writing to CDRW's that say "FOR USE IN HIGH SPEED DRIVES ONLY" on
them. Please refer to the link below which will take you to Andy McFadden's
CD-Recordable FAQ for more details.
