One Desktop and one Laptop, both running XP-Home.
Can't see workgroup computers on desktop (which is the master browser).
Do see both PCs in workgroup on the laptop (which has browser stopped).
Both PCs running Zone Alarm Pro Version 5.5.094 (recently updated).

Help most appreciated!!!

Did you run "browstat status" on both?

Any chance of any overlooked firewalls? Is Zone Alarm properly configured?

Thanks, Chuck,

ZoneAlarm configuration problem found and corrected. Reference provided for
firewall was most helpful.

Problem Cause: I had previously blocked Port 135 to deal with a ShieldlsUp
warning.

Problem Correction: I reset protection for both Internet and Trusted Zones
to default settings via the Custom buttons for each. This unblocked Port 135.

General comment ... I found your replies to this and other postings most
helpful. They provided a good general education in the subject area. Not
sure I saw a similar problem, i.e. specifically with port 135 closed, but I
do know that the ZoneAlarm Forum indicated a number of people taking this
same action in response to ShieldsUp warning... perhaps others will
experience the same consequence?

PS Yes, I had run browstat status and both computers with nothing amiss.
Had earlier found computer browser "start" in Services for each computer. I
stopped the browser in the Laptop and that enabled me to see the workgroup
computers from the Laptop.

Again ... many thanks, Chuck.

You're welcome. Thanks for the feedback and the update.

Forgotten and misconfigured firewalls, as I note in other places, is such a
frequent base cause of this sort of problem. Especially now that so many
security products are bundling antivirus / antispyware and firewalls, and
dropping the prices so that the bundles become almost as cheap as the ala-carte
products.

Be careful when using ShieldsUp as the sole authoritative source. Be thankful
for the ZoneAlarm forum.
