I am unable to change my ICF settings (ie - open/close
certain ports). When I hit the Settings button in the
Advanced tab of my network connection properties dialog,
nothing happens apart from the dialog loosing focus.

Has anyone had this problem before?

Is it possible to 'reinstall' ICF?

Please help.

IIRC, ICF does not have settings other than enabled/disabled.
ICF is a very simple firewall -- if you want more features,
bag ICF and get something else, like ZoneAlarm (www.ZoneLabs.com).

Bob, ICF has settings for port forwarding (sends traffic from the
Internet to servers on the internal network), security logging
(creates a firewall log file), and controlling responses to incoming
ICMP messages.

Nicholas, go to Start | Run | services.msc, and make sure that the
ICF/ICS service is running. Look for error messages about ICF in
Event Viewer:

Steve - nothing in Event Viewer about ICF, and the
ICF/ICS Service is running. Any other options/actions you
can think of?

There might be other services needed that I'm not aware of. If you've
disabled any Microsoft services, re-enable them.

It's possible that the network connection has become corrupted. Go to
Device Manager, remove the network adapter that the connection uses,
and reboot. XP will re-install the network adapter and create a new
network connection.

Also, verify that the interface is not disabled by checking it in Device
Manager.

The other way to determine if the service is running is to open command
prompt and type:

"net start sharedaccess"

If you get a message stating that the service is already running, then you
know that ICF is on.
