Can't view a powerpoint file

When I double click the file name, the powerpoint software starts up. Then
one blank slide appears on my screen. I try to advance or go back and
nothing happens. I tried pullin it up on another computer and it worked
fine. There are six ppt files I need to view for my class and three of them
do this. Is there a setting wrong on my PC?
