Can't validate or update

I just re-installed my system, I typed my computer ID in when it was
requested, after installation in order to register windows I had to type it
in again. It said I had used the number too many times & I had to get another
number by phone, so I did that, now I'm trying to update windows & it says an
unknown error has occured & it can't validate ... so I can't update my system.

I've done this before, I had to call the number once before doing the same
thing & never had any trouble, keep in mind I am installing from scratch,
nothing else has been installed to cause any conflict. I followed
instructions & it's not working.

I've deleted temp files/cookies (just in case) & rebooted many times. I
thought maybe since the number I used just after installation is different
than the number I got by phone to register my copy with......? not sure why I
need to validate again anyway (so I can recieve system updates)

anyway, I'm clueless, caan anyone help?

Please visit: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/default.mspx and click on "Validate Windows". Restart your computer. Does this
technique solve the issue?
