When I do a cntrl-alt-delete, the Task Manager only stays up a couple
seconds. If I keep my fingers on those keys, it will stay up and go
away repeatedly. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I am having some trouble understanding the directions given in the
above reference:
This worm disables NAV, Msconfig, Regedit and Task Manager:
http://www.bitdefender.com/bd/site/virusinfo.php?menu_id=1&v_id=114

Rename regedit.exe to regedit.com then: Download then Merge the edit on line 251 then delete all the files mentioned in the above link. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Are all these lines part of the solution to the problem? I think I
have the cydog worm mentioned in the first link. What are "the files
mentioned in the above link"? Thanks.

I finally figured out that a file called system2.exe might be the
cause of the problem. I deleted that file, while in safe mode, and
now the 3 programs all work. Anybody know anything about system2.exe?
Will I have a problem because it is not there? Thanks.
