Since I loaded Win XP I can't find a fix to operate my
Easy CD Creator v4.o and my MGI photosuite 4.0
There isn't a fix except to upgrade to a more expensive
one. I like my old software and was wondering if anyone
knows a fix before I get rid of XP. It not being
compatible with so much software makes it not appealing
to me. HELP

Easy CD Creator 4.02 can be run on XP but you can't use the version of
Direct CD or Take 2 that ships with it. You need to first disable XP's built
in burning software by selecting the Properties for your CD writer and going
to the Recording Tab.

You need to have the updates handy
http://www.roxio.com/en/support/uk/ecdc/ecdc_software_updatesv401_to_405_oem.jhtml

Make a Restore Point first. Go to Start->Help and Support->Pick a
task->click on System Restore.

Install ECDC 4. Ignore the warning about it not installing. Do not install
Direct CD or Take 2. Do not reboot after the install. Immediately patch to
at least 4.02. Then reboot.

I don't know about MGI Photosuite 4. But have you tried the Compatibility
Wizard? You can use that to fake the installer into thinking it is
installing to an earlier version of windows. Try setting it for Windows
2000. Program->Accessories->Program Compatibility. Or if the app installs
but won't run then locate the program in the Programs menu and right click.
Then select Properties->Compatibility Tab.

You definitely cannot use Easy CD Creator 4.0 with XP. End of story. Go
to Roxio's website and see if you qualify for an upgrade price. If you
cannot run MGI Photosuite under XP, even using the Compatibility Mode,
then you can't use it and yes, you'll need to find something else that
works for you. If running those two programs is important to you, then
you have choices: 1) don't use XP; 2) or dual-boot with Win9x/ME; 3) or
keep an older computer around to run the older software.

Contrary to what roxio might say it is possible to run ECDC 4.0x on XP but
it must be updated to at least 4.02 or higher. 4.05 works OK on most
systems. Direct CD and Take 2 are the biggest culprits and must not be
installed.

While it should be worth a shot for the OP, I think it'll
be a matter of luck. I had nothing but trouble with 4.x
without Direct CD and Take 2. IIRC, the update you refer
to automatically disables or removes Take 2 if it's
present, but I still had no luck and wound up using Nero.

You may be able to get EasyCD (on its own, not Direct CD that came with
it) to work by doing the following

Get the upgrade from www.roxio.com to take your version to 4.05

Uninstall what you have, including DirectCD and Take Two. Then To tidy
up, get a registry patch file, cdgone.reg, from
www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it, r-click on it and merge
it into the registry

Install your EasyCD 4 *only* without Direct CD or TakeTwo

At the end, on exit from its setup, do not reboot, but immediately run
the upgrade and then reboot.

That mostly works.

Photosuite I don't know; I would have thought it work trying to install
using All Programs - Accessories - Program Compatibility Wizard,
browsing to Photosuite's setup and telling it to pretend to be Win98.
