Hi Folks!

I've had some problems lately and have had to reformat my hard drive. But
before I reformatted, I was able to save some data and downloaded programs
onto a CD. Now I want to re-install some of the downloaded programs (which
I purchased) but find that when I try to copy the files onto my hard drive,
access is denied. I'm the one who created the back-up, yet I am being
denied access.

Can anyone tell me what I have to do in order to be able to re-install this
data and programs? I have WindowsXP Pro. I hope someone can put me on the
right track, because the problem that forced me to reformat the harddrive
was enough of a disaster as it is.

Thanks for your help!

Best Regards,
Danno

Thanks Michael. I went to the article you referred me to and it seems to
address the issue, but the fix doesn't seem to work. The 'fix' refers to a
'security tab' in 'properties'. But I don't see any 'security' tab.

I believe the reason I can't access the files on the CD are the same as
described in the article. I did in fact create the backup on a different
installation of Windows (same computer). I find it frustrating because the
backup was created for just this purpose, to get the files back onto my hard
drive. Would you have any other suggestions?

Thanks again,
Danno

Thanks Ricky. Yes I turned off simple file sharing. I've tried right
clicking on the file (it's in drive E), both with file sharing turned off,
and with it enabled, and in neither case can I see a 'security' tab. If
you're referring to 'sharing' tab, I can see that. It gived me to option to
share this folder, which I have selected. But still, I cannot access the
files I need.

I imagine the fix is fairly simple, but for the life of me, I haven't found
it yet. I'd sure appreciate any other advice. Thanks again Ricky!
