Cant use ftp software in win xp

Help needed,whatever ftp software I use a cannot connect to ftp sites, if
revert to a windows 98 setup I can so Iam presuming no probs with software,
must be a problem with my xp setup. any help would be apreciated.

Can you connect to any web site, not just an ftp site?
 
Hi thanks for your reply, I found the problem was caused by Zone Alarm, even
though it was switched off, a total uninstall done and Iam now able to use
my ftp software.
