I bought a new Compaq Desktop with XP Home and bought the XP Pro upgrade
(will be using it as a client on a network with a domain). I booted the
computer into Home and then started the XP Pro upgrade. I did a
compatibility check with no problems.
After entering the key I got a message that it was an invalid key (I checked
it and it was typed in correctly.) I then placed a call to MS support and
they gave me a new key, it didn't work either. I called back and waited on
the phone for 52 minutes. He gave me yet another key that didn't work. We
started a new install to include a format and tried all the keys that were
given me to no avail. I called Compaq and they told me that it was a MS
problem. Now I have a brand new computer that when it boots goes right back
into the setup program and won't accept my key. Told the store where I
bought the computer and they want $79.00 to look at it because it was an
upgrade I was doing myself. This is the 24th or 25th computer I have
upgraded and had no problem with any of the others. (All clients on a SBS
2003 network).
Any ideas? Please help.
Thanks,
Robert
