I had a succuessful dual boot system going. I had setup my primary
hard drive setup with two instances of WinXP using Partition Magic 8.
The second instance was a stripped down version of XP - tweaked for
stable video editing. I used BootMagic 8 to select the desired
instance of XP at startup. I have two other hard drives for media.
Everything has been working fine until I had a registry error that
brought the whole thing to its knees a few weeks ago. I did have the
My Doom A virus, but I doubt that had anythig to do with it. I had
also run a registry cleaning program that probably dug a little too
deep - and I am embarrased to say I didn't have the registry backed
up.

Once I finally got the main drive reformatted and the dual boot system
all setup like before, a strange thing has happened. I cannot get one
of the secondary drives to "unhide". I can use Partition Magic to
Unhide it, then reboot where it says that PM has unhid the partition -
but after bootup, the drive still does not appear. All drives are
NTFS except for the FAT partition between the dual boot partitions
housing BootMagic on the main drive. Again - all was well before so I
don't know why the trouble now. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Fred

Hi

Can you unhide the partition using the PM 8 'rescue disks' to then make it appear?

I have had this happen. My solution was to set the hidden partition as
active using FDISK from a Windows 98 boot disk. This will unhide the
partition.

Will - no, I just tried that and no change. It says it has
successfully unhid it, but after rebooting it is still not there.

OK - here is a screenshot of Partition Magic 8 on this PC.
www.eflanger.com/temp/pm8.jpg - you can see that drive 2 is Hidden. I
can Unhide it here in PM8 or using the BootMagic rescue diskettes and
when I reboot it says it is Unhiding the partition. But upon the
subsequent reboot in the process it reverts back to Hidden.
