Can't Stop Restore

XP PRO: Goes to restore - continuous loop. Can't use boot disk, CD. Still
goes back to loop after <break>. Tries to go to setup, then back to loop.

Suggestions?
 
Info provided is something yuo would send as a SOS.

CAn't yuo give more info nad history?

Why can't boot from disk or cd?

Press "Delete" key (repeatedly) after restart to enter BIOS. Enter "Advanced
Settings"(or similar category)[Use arrow keys to navigate/highlight].
Navigate down to "1st Boot Device". Make a note of what is listed. If not
"Floppy" or "CDrom", hit "Enter",use (-) key to change entry into the device
you want to boot from. Go down to 2nd Boot device, make it into whichever
device was #1, usually HDD-0 or HDD-1. Same for Boot Dev#3, so that all three
devices are listed. ESC once or twice to get back out; Press F10 key to save
the change. Or whichever key BIOS info (at bottom of screen) says.
Ctrl+Alt+Delete to reboot.
Or, press F8 key repeatedly after restart until Boot Options list comes up.
Choose "Safe Mode". Restore to an Earlier point. Hopefully.
 
Already tried all those. No matter what it was going into loop between XP
window and login screen (never gets there).

Reguardless of how I boot, between XP window and login (never gets there), it
enters restore loop. I finally removed HD from laptop and made it a USB
drive. Cleared out backup/restore partition. Still trying to loop. Tried F11
to use disk. It seemed to work, but then had missing/corumped files - no boot.

I have given up and am trying re-install, but I am leary of the Gateway disk.

What do you mean by "restore loop". Don't use some characterization you
have come up with, describe what it does. If you means some sort of
automatic restore function contact the tech support for the laptop vendor.
