Since reloading xp w/sp2 on my machines I can no longer share folders such as
Widows, Program files, and some in the Docs and settings file. Before the
reload I could access all files on all (3) machines.

I have tried unchecking "simple file shareing" and gave rights the hard way
and it still did no good. I have only admins on my machines, no other users,
with, of course, all rights.

When I right click windows and click the sharing tab the box that comes ups
says that the options are grayed out because the folders are used by the
system.

Thanks for help... BTW, Chuck, we've not coorsponded, I come to the forums
to read and learn (and help if possible), but I've had few problems with
Windows over the years that I couldn't figure out. But thanks for the reply
earlier.....

With simple file sharing enabled, XP blocks networked access to the
Program Files and Windows folders and to individual users' folders
within Documents and Settings.

After disabling simple file sharing, un-share all of your shared disks
and folders and then re-share them.

Hi Dan,

OK, that explains it. Apparently, "(e-mail address removed)" can be shared
serially by different folks. So you, Dan, are not the same
"(e-mail address removed)" as I helped a few months ago. I guess
registration for any name in the Microsoft CDO (HTML based) forum expires after
inactivity.

Under Simple File Sharing, those folders can't be shared successfully. When you
disable SFS, you need to go into Sharing - Permissions, and change the settings
manually, for those folders. If you can't do that, then you'll have to delete
then re-add those shares, with SFS disabled.

Anyway, welcome to the forum.
