I have windows xp home, frontier dsl, and a linksys router. I eventually want
a home network, but since the other computer is not here, I just want
internet on my dell.

heres the problem, the dsl and router are properly set up, and i want to
have internet shared through the router. the dell is not getting any internet
at all, but when i plug the same cable into this laptop, which i use to post
on this forum, the internet works fine. i assume there is just another stupid
thing i have to do with windows, please help. the computer is brand new, and
windows was just installed today.

posting the result of the dell's ipconfig /all may help. or check this how to troubleshooting internet access issue, http://howtonetworking.com/Internet/internetaccess0.htm

Don't send e-mail or reply to me except you need consulting services. Posting on MS newsgroup will benefit all readers and you may get more help.
