I followed the instructions to set Outlook as default for contacts, etc.
Word can't access contacts list. I use AOL for e-mail, could that be the
problem?

Word uses the Outlook Address Book, not contacts. Set up the Contacts folder
as an address book. Right click on Contacts folder and select Address Book.

Thanks, Mary. Where do I find the "contacts folder"? This is my first look
at Outlook 2003.

This is slightly inaccurate, since the Outlook Address Book is nothing more
than a special view of the Contacts folder. SO Word (and amything else
utilizing the Outlook Address Book) IS using the Contacts.

By default, in the default PST (Personal Folders File), which is usually
labeled "Outlook Today", you should have several folders: Calendar,
Contacts, Deleted Items, Drafts, Inbox, Journal, Junk E-mail, Notes, Outbox,
Sent Items, and Tasks. The Contacts folder is where you store the address
information of the people for whom you wish to keep that information.
