I can recieve mail w/ Windows Mail, but get an error code that ends with F -
my company's web tech that was trying to help me says that is a firewall of
security protection that is preventing me to sned out. The firewall is off
and I tried turning off Windows Defender and that did not help. Any other
suggestions?

We often need to see the whole error message, not just one letter of it,
to offer much help.

Is it your company's firewall or yours that is causing the problem? Making
changes on your computer isn't likely to help if it is the company's
firewall.
Some companies are far enough behind in applying updates to their servers
that they won't let Vista users send mail.

Does your connection to the server use equipment belonging to more than
one internet provider? If so, many internet providers block such
connections
if they go to port 25, and a few block them if they go to certain other
ports.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.
