Just bought a new computer with Windows Vista on. I can't send E mails but
receive them okay. Error message is:
An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Hello', Account: 'mail.i12.com',
Server: 'mail.i12.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0B
AVS came with the computer - Bulldog. Tried disabling scanning on out going
mail but no change.
Have downloaded a fix from Microsoft mentioned in other threads but no luck.
Is it to do with the port setting or something else? Any help much
appreciated by this computer ludite.

I assume you've followed these instructions for setting up your I12 account:

<http://www.i12.com/content/sections/online_help/microsoft_exchange_client.htm>

<http://www.i12.com/content/sections/online_help/account_queries.htm>

They don't say what port number they use, but if they aren't your internet
provider, you're likely to have port 25 blocked. Often, you can reach
port 25 only on the email servers belonging to your internet provider.
If you want to use another port, though, you'll have to ask your email
provider for instructions since it often requires more changes than just
the port number, and it's unlikely they will accept outgoing mail on more
than a few ports.

Your settings look OK. You can check them with these directions:
http://www.i12.com/content/sections/online_help/microsoft_outlook_express_5_6.htm

It sounds like something is interfering with Windows Mail.
Uninstall the Bulldog AV program. Disabling is often not sufficient.
Reboot and try Windows Mail again. If it still gives an error message,
delete the account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that account.
Let us know if you need recommendations for a compatible and
free antivirus program.
