I bought a laptop with windows vista home basics preinstalled. I have been
able to correct any problems.
The host 'SMPT.localnet.com' could not be
found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly.
Subject 'stupid computer', Account: 'mail.localnet.com', Server:
'SMPT.localnet.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0Drrect most problems.
For the last 2 weeks I can't send mail. I get the above error. I have
uninstalled nortons anti virus and installed avast however it still doesn't
work. I am a real computer dummy so PLEASE if you can help me, keep it
simple. Thanks Kathy

You have a typo.

Change SMPT to smtp in you settings.

as follows

Tools > Accounts > your email account > Properties > Servers > Outgoing
should read smtp.localnet.com

OK, I did that. Now do I need to restart my computer for it to work?

No. Exit Windows Mail, restart it and try sending another email.
If you have any problem report back with the new error message
and we'll sort it eventually.

Do you also use localnet.com?
And have a typo in the outgoing server name?

what is your exact error message?

yes it did. It probably would have helped if I had the letters in the right
order and apparently small case too.

I'm not sure about the right case
but the right order definitely helps.

Dave, I do not get any error message. My reply goes to the outbox and just
sits there. I have Microsoft VISTA and it does all sort of strange things. I
have checked the servers under account but nothing works. I called AT&T and
they could not help me either. I am at a loss. I do not have a typo; I
can receive but cannot send messages. I entered the SMTP IN BOTH CAPITAL AND
SMALL LETTERS but no luck either. Any other suggestions?

Kathy, did the fix provided below work? I am having the same problem.

It would be a remarkable coincidence if you were having exactly the same
problem... ie. you entered the identical spelling error.

Post your own error message here if you still have problems.

Kathy, good! I wish my problem was as easy as your fix.

What makes you think it isn't as easy as simply
putting in the correct settings?

Post your error message here.
