Hey, I can't send any email but I can receive just fine. Here's what the
error is telling me:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Bro', Account:
'pop3.tds.net', Server: 'smtp.tds.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

If you could help I'd really appreciate it. I have tried disabling the email
protect options, and I have symantec security if that helps you any

Have you tried setting up your Outgoing Mail with 'smtp-server.provider.com'
I was having the same problem and now it is working just fine. Carla

I take it that TDS is your home ISP? Were you sending from home when
that error occurred?

Make sure email scanning in your antivirus is disabled.

We appreciate the effort, Carla, but please don't offer advice unless
you know exactly how to fix a specific problem. Random advice that
is not appropriate just confuses the people you are trying to help.

I have the exact same problem word for work. I have Cox for my ISP, Vista,
and use Yahoo for mail. I just upgraded to Plus Yahoo mail, so I can use
Windows mail with my Yahoo. It worked fine initially (this past Friday),
however since the initial setup I haven’t been able to send not one email. I
did what was suggested with my Anti-virus setting, no luck. I even rebooted
thinking that might help. Any suggestions?

I need to see the complete error message so I can verify that your
settings are correct. Right-click on the error message, copy, then paste
it into a reply here.

Here it is.

OK, I did what you said, in the tools tab, accounts, Advance tab I changed
the server port numbers and clicked use SSL, now I get two errors??

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the

the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

Well I only see 1 error message, and the answer is contained within it,
click the link and follow the advice listed for Outlook Express:
1.. Click "Tools," and select "Accounts."
2.. Click the "Mail" tab, and choose "Properties."
3.. On the "Servers" tab, ensure that you have not checked "Log on Using
Secure Password Authentication" in the Incoming Mail Server section or "My
Server Requires Authentication" in the Outgoing Mail Server area.
4.. Check that "POP3" is listed in the Incoming Mail Server field.
5.. On the "Advanced" tab, ensure that you have not selected "This Server
Requires a Secure Connection (SSL)" under the Incoming (POP3) or Outgoing
(SMTP) Port settings.

You missed a step.
The setting "My server requires authentication" needs to be checked.

So it did work for a while, right?
That new error message is usually caused by interference from
a non-compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem,
consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from overly intrusive antivirus programs.
http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

I have the exact same problem word for work. I have Cox for my ISP, Vista,
and use Yahoo for mail. I just upgraded to Plus Yahoo mail, so I can use
Windows mail with my Yahoo. It worked fine initially (this past Friday),
however since the initial setup I haven’t been able to send not one email. I
did what was suggested with my Anti-virus setting, no luck. I even rebooted
thinking that might help. Any suggestions?

:

I take it that TDS is your home ISP? Were you sending from home when
that error occurred?

Make sure email scanning in your antivirus is disabled.

Hey, I can't send any email but I can receive just fine. Here's what the
error is telling me:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Bro', Account:
'pop3.tds.net', Server: 'smtp.tds.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

If you could help I'd really appreciate it. I have tried disabling the email
protect options, and I have symantec security if that helps you any
