Can't seem to do Flat Stitching with Stitcher

I'm trying to assemble two images obtained by scanning oversized photo
album pages so that the result is a single stitched image. This is a
"flat stitch" job, and Realviz Stitcher is supposed to be able to do
that. But I can't get it to work.

Both images before stitching are marked as "Flat stitch", but when the
second one is added to combine with the first, the program skews the
second one, apparently assuming some focal length. It will stitch them
but does a very bad job. The second image retains an inappropriate
keystone shape.

I've consulted the help and tried different things, so far without
success. Can anyone advise?

I've never used that program but a similar one. Don't you have the choice to
manually select the "pins"?
In other words you pick manually where a certain pixel on each picture lines
up near the top of the picture & then select another two near the bottom.
It seems the auto isn't picking the right pixel somewhere.
Also what you are seeing can occur if both pictures weren't taken "on the
same plane" & from the same position.
Best to set your camera up on a tripod & instead of taking two pics side by
side, take maybe 6 or 10 about 5 or 10 degrees around from each other. The
more overlap the less distortion & colour difference you'll pick.
I use PanaView.

These are scans, not pictures taken in a camera. The focal length
would approximate infinity.
