I'm runninga Tablet Pc with Windows Xp Tablet Version, and every time I try
to browse other computers on the network I get an error message saying that I
do not have permission to access it. This is rather pecularly particullary as
there are dedicated network servers with shared drives, and I have full
access to the intrnet. Bizarley also if another computer tries to access the
shared documents folder on my laptop the same error message arises. This
occurs both over wireless and when connected by cable. Odly when I ping a
computer name it is unable to connect, and likewise if i try to map a shared
drive (which works fine on all the other computers) it won't allow me.
However if i try to ping the ip or map the specific ip it connects. Despite
alowing me to connect it is rather fustrating as I need to know the ip of the
computer I'm connecting to within the network, and this can be a bit of a
pain especially when I'm on another network such as on campus. I've done
everything I can think of, I've tried changing the rokgroup and NEtbui
settings to now avail, I don't know how to fix the irritating fault.

Tomasz,

What is the complete and exact error message?

One of the most common causes of this error would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

Are you using NetBIOS or NetBEUI? Are you using the same on each computer?
NetBIOS Over TCP is the supported, and best known, transport. If you're using
NetBEUI, and having problems, remove it please.

If you still need help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!):

Please let us know if any of these suggestions are of any help. What you learn
may help others in the future, and that's the purpose of these forums.

The exact message i get is (Homenet being the name of the network, different
for each network)'Homenet is not accessible. You might nothave permission to
use this network resource. Contact the adminstrator of this server to find
out if you have access permissions.

The network path was not found.'
and likewise the same for another computer browsing this one.

OK, Tomasz,

That's a standard error 53, with many possible causes. The most common would be
a misconfigured or overlooked personal firewall, and there are several more.

I used ipconfig /all off the command prompt and used the link to your
website as saw that the Node Type was set to Peer-to-Peer. After reading your
website and a bit of fiddiling I was able to set it to Broadcast in the
registry and solve the problem.
I am confounded how this was altered in the registry but netherthe less if
it happens again I know how to fix it.
Thanks!
