cant save pictures to computer from internet.

I tried to save a picture from the internet to my computer and I go back into
it to look at it and it doesnt show up. It will have the name it's saved
under but not the picture. If I click to see the properties it says its an
ART file. No picture will show up. I also, tried to save a picture from my e-
mail that a friend sent to me, and the same thing happens. It's not because
my internet files are overloaded too, becuase I just deleted them and tried
again. This probably has been happening for a while. Please help.
 
When you save the picture do you right click and choose Save picture as, if
so make sure that the file type is .jpg then try viewing the file created
when you save the picture.
