Can't Save 'folder is read-only'?

We have some files on the local server that I open directly in Dreamweaver
or Textpad to edit. If I try open the same files in FP 2002, I can, but I
can't save it, because FP tells me that the folder is 'read only'.

Are there separate 'FP' permissions I need to set to these folders or
something?

Addendum:

I'm actually having all sort of problems with this particular folder on the
server. It shows as a 'web' icon, but it won't open because 'it's not a
web'.

So, I tried making a new folder, which I can, and then converting that to a
web. If I do that, I get this error:

---------------------------
Server error: Unable to create a disk-based web at
\\localserveralias\wwwroot\testfolder because its parent web would not be a
disk-based web. Create the disk-based web elsewhere, outside of your web
server's document hierarchy.
---------------------------

This was so easy to do in DreamWeaver... ;o)

If you have used any 3rd party tools to open edit files/folders in a FP Server Extended web you have probably corrupted the FP SE
- have your host repair/reapply them and always manage your FP web using File Open Web in FP

What is a FP SE?
- have your host repair/reapply them and always manage your FP web using
File Open Web in FP

I am the host--It's my server. Also, I'd rather not make these actual webs.
I really don't want all of the crap FP puts on the server. Is there no way
to allow a FP user to just use FP as an HTML editor?

SE - Server Extensions
No they can't work on a server w/o the FP SE installed on the server

They can only work on a local disc based web on their PC, or a shared drive mapped to their PC on a network

Ah. Well, we're not really needing any FP extensions. I really just want a
few people that insist on sticking with FrontPage to be able to open some
simple HTML files, edit them, and resave them.

We're resetting the FP SE right now to see if that helps.
They can only work on a local disc based web on their PC, or a shared
drive mapped to their PC on a network

So it can't use an alias to the server? That's OK, I think...we can just
have them map the server as a drive.

Stil...a bit of a PITA to get this working ;o)

Thanks for the help!
