Dear group !

I have a strange problem with my CD drive on a brand new pc with XP-pro. I am unable to run installation programs from the cd. I get the message "Install.exe is not a valid Win32-program". It runs fine on a XP-home edition. Furthermore, the drive seems to be somewhat slow, but eventually displays the content of the drive. Also I am unable to copy (some - it seems to be random) files to the harddrive - I get an I/O error.

Does anyone have an idea as to the nature of this problem - and a solution ?

Thank you in advance
and best regards

.
The exact errormessage is "Install.exe is not a valid Win32 application".
The message is described in doc 321641 in the KB but the problem is not really solved. The document does not suggest what to do if the Xcopy example fails.

Best regards and sorry about the formatting

what are you trying to do? reinstall xp or additional
apps or some such?
.
Hi Mick !

Thank you for replying. I was trying to install Delphi (5.0)
so it was another app. Anyway, the reason for the
erratic behaviour, was a broken IDE cable so the problem
has been solved now.

Thanks for taking an interest
best regards
