What is "a 7z"?
Sounds more like some sort of software issue than lack of physical
memory. The application installation could be damaged. There could be
some other process or driver running that is incompatable with the
troublesome application. Three GB is a generous amount of RAM and it
would be an extrordinary application that couldn't use a mere 192 MB of
user data on a system with much less RAM. Check the application's
documentation for main RAM requirements and recommendations.
Some versions of Windows aren't paticularly revealing in their error
messages. Some data tables connected to the operation of applications,
rather than the actual user data, require space in a limited capacity in
a shared operating system memory block that can run short on space if
too many applications and background processes are running. I don't know
to what extent XP is more elaborative on those errors or offers larger
shared space. There MAY be more information in the operating system's
error log.
If you are running any other applications try shutting them down while
you use the application you are having trouble with. Investigate
shutting down some background processes too.
Lack of free space on the hard drive or unecessary restriction on the
swap file size can cause errors too, but that fact is usually spelled
out in the error message. Most applications are designed in smaller
blocks that can be temporarily relocated to the hard drive's swap file
when physical memory starts running short.
