Hi Folks

Got a strange problem. I cant rename or delete folders without XP (SP2)
crashing. It just hangs.
If I create a new folder, it hangs when I try and name it and after a CTRL
ALT DELETE iexplore errors and the new folder appears, but is called "New
Folder".

Not sure if this is connected, but it appeared to happen after the
installation of "Wise FTP"

I tried a Win XP SP2 installation repair. Didn't fix it.

I then did a full reformat and reinstallation of my C Drive. This was
running fine for 1 week, until I installed Wise FTP and the same thing seems
to have happened again (Coincidence?).

I cannot rename or delete folders. I cannot give new folders names.

Anyone aware of this error? Is WISE FTP likely to be the cause?

Hardware (in case it's important)

ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe
Intel P4 Prescott 3.4Ghz
Corsair Twin X 1GB Ram
nVidia GeForce 6800 GT
Audigy 2 Sound Card
Win XP Home SP2

Anyone help please??!???

Thanks

RJ

Have done. Doesn't work.
Only seems to affect folders... not files? Weird and annoying!!

Thanks

you want to try booting to a command prompt and delete the folder from there?
messy but it should work

RJ - You've got a perfect case of cause-and-effect. Obviously there is a
problem with Wise FTP. If everything else works and you like Wise FTP,
then there is a good chance the program installed a right-click context
menu extension that isn't playing nice with your system. An easy way to
determine this is by using the free ShellExView program and disabling
non-MS extensions. Get the program here:

If that fixes the issue, well and good. If it doesn't, uninstall Wise
FTP and try a different program. A good, basic FTP program that is free
for personal use is FTP Commander, which you can get here:

Fantastic! Thanks very much Malke!
I installed the Prog, disabled a "WiseTP hook" and bingo, all works OK
again!

Only reason I was using Wise FTP is because my web host (1and1) insists I
use it to avoid some weird intermittent FTP problems I have been getting
(Can Log onto FTP but times out when uploading). I normally use Smart FTP or
FlashFXP.

Thanks again Malke.. cant tell you how please I am!

Well, you've totally made my day! I'm so glad you got it sorted. Thanks
for taking the time to let me know.
