I can not click and drag some desktop icons. Nor can I right click them, to
delete them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi

Dependent on where those icons came from:

Please try these programs to check for any spyware that may be on your
system:

Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://forum.aumha.org/downloads/cwshredder.zip
Spy Sweeper - www.webroot.com

Try SpyWareBlaster to stop intrusions:

I had already ran my anti virus and spyware programs, to remove a lop
hijacking, but can not get rid of the icons that it left.

I am having the same problem. They are internet icons... when I click on
them, they open up IE. But cannot delete them. Have run Adaware, and
SpywareBlaster to no avail. They are also listed in my "Favorites" file,
and cannot be deleted there either. Very odd.

Hi

Have you tried deleting them via Windows Explorer?

Hi

Not in the Documents and Settings\<your account>\Desktop folder?

Try accessing that folder from a command prompt and deleting the files from
there.

When I access the Desktop folder they aren't showing. They also aren't
showing when I go into Organize Favorites, but they show up when I open
Favorites. I have gone into msconfig and unchecked everything I can find
there, but when I reboot, up they come again. Driving me a little crazy.

Many people are having this problem, including myself. I read some postings
related to this yesterday, from the following people:

(e-mail address removed)

I have not tried their reccomendations myself because I'm concerned with
damaging the register, but if you find a fools-proof procedure please share
it.

I found that "c:\documents and settings\username\application data" directory
had a folder called "Skip Gray.....something or other." I navigated to that
directory, changed all the file extensions to .old and if a file dint have an
extension, I gave it the extension of .old. I also ran msconfig from
Start/Run and selected the startup tab. I disabled any weird file that I
thought had nothing to do with Windows. I opened explorer and went to each
user's directory (c:\documents and settings\username\application data) and
found a suspect folder called 'Skip Gray.....something or other'. After
giving each file the extension of .old, I actually decided to just MOVE (Ctrl
X) the 'Skip Gray.....something or other' directory to the recycle bin on a
secondary hard drive. After moving that directory to the recycle bin, I
noticed that they disappeared, probably because they were not files, they
were pointers to various web sites. I also checked and found the suspect
directory under the following users (so to speak): All Users, Default User,
Help Assistant, LocalService, and NetworkService. So far, the icons (and
that stupid bar that appears at the bottom of IE) haven't reappeared.

Sorry for not being able to remember exact names. Hope this helps.

Ed.....

In the mean time I also tried the reccomendations from Bill and Steve. Went
into safe mode and deleted the funny entry in MSConfig and the funny
directory under "c:\documents and settings\all users\application data" and
other users. The icons are gone. The name of the directory varies, so just
look for an unsual name and recent creation date.
Thanks Ed, Bill and Steve!!

I just went into my application data, and found "Support Junk 1 Rect". I
then went to msconfig, to disabled it on start up; two files were found, Less
Meet and Software Bid. The icons are now gone. Apparently the lop
hijackings now take on many different names.

Thank you all who shared with me. God Bless and Happy New Year.

I've been reading all the posts, and trying everything but nothing seems to
help. I can't find any rogue files in documents and settings, etc. The
icons aren't there when I reboot, but as soon as I open IE they appear on my
desktop. Any more ideas?
