Can't remove deleted text

Paul

I have a document that someone made edits to. I can see
the edits and when I put my cursor over them - they
display as DELETED. The problem is I can't physically
delete them from the document using either the keyboard or
by highlighting and selecting cut. I get a message saying
that the selection is marked as deleted text. ANy ideas on
how to get rid of this?
 
Hi Paul,

Look in the toolbar, you should have the "Track Changes" toolbar displayed.
From there, accept all changes and turn off "Track Changes" if you want to
go back to a "normal" state.

Hi, Paul,

The deletion was done with Track Changes turned on, and it's still turned
on.

Instead of deleting the deletions (what a concept!), you need to "accept the
change". Go to Tools > Track Changes > Accept Or Reject Changes, and click
the Accept All button. Close that dialog. Then go to Tools > Track Changes >
Highlight Changes and uncheck the box for "Track changes while editing" so
you don't get any more of these.

To tell whether Track Changes is on or off, look at the status bar at the
bottom of the Word window. In the center are four three-letter sections: REC
(macro recorder), TRK (track changes), EXT (extend selection), and OVR
(overtype). Normally they're all gray. If any one of them is black, that
feature is turned on. As a shortcut, you can double-click any one of them to
turn the feature on or off, or right-click one to get a popup menu of
options.
 
Unprotect the document, then turn Track Changes off and accept all the
changes.
