I seem to have gotten one or more versions of windows on
my slave hard drive, and I can't get into it with format
or fdisk (doesn't seem to work in XP). I would like to
wipe this drive clean and start again, but it seems to get
activated when I boot.

If your system has booted up to the copy of xp on your slave drive I assume
you are attempting to format the drive from the computer management. You
can't format the drive that xp is running on. Well not from inside xp
anyway.
This is your slave drive. What is on your master drive? Is it a case that
the boot ini file is pointing the boot sequence to your slave drive (as your
C: drive) rather than the master drive? Might be worth checking the boot ini
file. Go to start and then click run. In the run dialog box type msconfig
and press ok. When msconfig opens click the boot ini tab. The master drive
should be disk 0 while your slave should be disk 1
If you are not sure post a copy of your boot ini file on this newsgroup
(just reply to this thread) so I can look at it. I can then, hopefully, give
you more specific instructions.
