Help! My computer was acting very slugglish this morning tried to reboot
and, during start up, got the MS Dos Starting.........screen - it then shows
the computer's current date and asks me to enter a new date - however, every
time I enter the date it says Invalid Date - oh and the date it showed at the
top was correct. Anyone have any ideas????

Looks like a BIOS issue, how old is the computer? Try inputting the date
in dd/mm/yyyy or mm/dd/yyyy format or any combination of.

Tried that - the computer was brand new last year - it shows the format it
requires but nothing is working - tried pushing F8 to get to safe mode and it
still brings up this same screen

Do you hear the POST beep? Reboot and enter the system setup. See if you can
enter the date there. If your cmos battery is dead you may have to reset
other system settings as well, e.g. drive settings.

HTH

OK I finally got it to accept the date but then it takes me to an MS Dos A
prompt - nothing else. Does that mean that Windows has totally crashed?

It looks like a blank dos partition, it is similar to how a dos disk used to
behave with no autoexec.bat or config.sys files.
