After I installed XP I can't read any of my old CD-R's or
CD-RW's. I can burn new CD's though and read those.
What's up?

Hello,

XP has built in software from Roxio (formerly Adaptec) to burn and read CDs.
What software did you use to burn your old Cd-Rs and CD/RW s? You may need
to use this software or an update in XP. Obtain and Install the XP or
latest version of this software. CD RW disks usually require a UDF reader
be installed. If you insert a CD/RW disk and wait XP may ask you if you
want to install a UDF reader from the disk (depends if it was put on the
disk by the burner software when you made the disk).

Let us know if this works or not, so others on the forum may learn.

BTW the built in Burner software in XP, in my opinion (IMO) is slow and
clumsy to use and non intuitive, Good burner software should be purchased
if you plan to use CD burning much at all. The two leading products are
Roxio and Nero. I prefer Roxio, but read some review on the Net.

Thankyou for your answer. I went and bought the lastest
version of Roxio CD Creator. That is what I used to burn
the original disks (an early version). I found that some
disks opened and some didn't. But it looks like some of
the information was corrupted. Overall I'm happy with the
results. Thanks again.
