I'm trying to uninstall XP so that I can completely reinstall it. I kee
getting an error message when using the install DVD that warns me abou
losing files and data by installing an earlier (2002) version of XP
However, warnings aside, my computer won't let me attempt t
uninstall/reinstall XP, and attempts to boot from the XP DVD, or eve
boot in Safe Mode, have been brutally rebuffed by the computer. I can'
do a system restore or anything! (I fell victim to a virus that took
system file or two with it). HELP

Hope all goes well.

i think that your windows setup cd is not a dvd.... Hope you are using a
device that can read cd's instead. If you have 2 devices, 1-cd and 2nd-dvd,
be sure to set your cmos to boot from the cd and not the dvd....

Also, are you sure that you simply want to wipe out the entire harddrive for
your proposed new installation? Have you saved all your personal doc's,
files, pics....?

How do you know you had a problem with a virus? If you did, then it comes
to mind that maybe an antivirus software may have discovered it and informed
you of it. At the same time, if the antivirus discovered it, then it may
have taken the corrective actions. Remember, that spywares and adwares and
some others are not detected by antivirus softwares. And some antivirus
softwares dont' detect everything as well.

It seems to be an easy solution to wipe away the infection, what ever it may
be. But if you don't figure out the how's and why's of becoming infected,
then it is likely you will encounter the problem again......

I suggest that you repair your current installation instead of wiping it
away. Then begin taken other actions to defend yourself from a constant and
ever evolving plague of infections and malicious programming that you will
surely encounter in the future.....
