I have a problem that has been messing with me for a couple days. I can
access the internet just fine. There are a few things that I cannot do
though, for instance, I am not able to play a .wmv file that I found at a
website, I cannot use any of my file sharing programs, Mozilla Firefox won't
work nor will AOL, and I can't ping anything past my NIC. Other computers
on my network are fine. Any ideas?

Periodically I cannot access any website and I have to End Process on
rundll32.exe and ctfmon.exe

As a starting-point, I'd get a copy of Ad-Aware and scan for parasites.
Also start Task Manager and check for for any processes that don't look as if
they belong. Might not be the reason but it's usually my first port of call
when a computer starts misbehaving for no apparent reason.

Ctfmon has to do with text-input and Office toolbars, but then it might of
course be an impostor using that name. Rundll32 is a small program
(typically) used to launch a system-process from a command-prompt. This
doesn't often get executed on a typical user's machine, it's more of an
engineer's tool.

On a hunch I started up my Sygate Personal Firewall, which hasn't been
running for some time nor has it even been loaded into memory, and changed
the setting to allow all. Instantly I got some popups but I was able to ping
and use FireFox, but I still can't access certain media files in IE that I
can in Firefox
