can't ping name only IP address

on a laptop - can only ping name of servers - there fore alot of programs not
working
Tried putting in all DNS/WINS, etc - hard coding
rejoining domain, etc.
any ideas?

Sherri,

Your Subject vs detail is confusing "can't ping name only IP address", then "can
only ping name of servers". Which is it? Also, knowing what the exact problem
is, and what your network is like, would make a big difference here too.
Details are not unappreciated here.

If it's a name vs ip address issue, and you have tried using the recommended DNS
servers, you may have an LSP / Winsock problem.

If it's an issue with the websites themselves, I'd suspect an MTU setting
problem.

Or are you talking about local servers (on your LAN)? Do you have a domain that
should be taking care of you? It could be a domain setup problem.

Sorry - you can ping the ip address but not the server name
Anyway I just found the problem it was 1 of the addresses in DNS settings
that wasn't working - once I took it out it was ok

I'm confused. Your subject says that you can only ping an IP address,
but the text says you can only ping name of servers. Which is it?
