I have a home wifi with 3 computers and a printer. Everything works and I
can ping everything from everything except I cannot ping my XP notebook from
itself. Why?

The problem is probably a misconfigured or incorrectly un-installed
firewall program.

Well, Steve, it turns out that it does work if I disable Norton Internet
Security. It is really hard to understand since with NIS enabled I can see
my files through MS Windows Network and by using \\computername in a browser
window. I have my Trusted Zone clearly including the IP that my XP is
currently using. The XP Firewall has never been enabled. DO you think it
might payoff to re-install NIS?

I think it would pay off to replace NIS with a different firewall,
Jim. I've seen several cases where it looks like NIS is configured
properly but it blocks LAN access.
