Thanks in advance for any help you can provide this desperate person.

After upgrading to Adobe 8 earlier today, I went back in to try and open
some Word documents. Whenever I click on a file, I am getting a prompt from
the Windows Installer saying "Please wait while Windows reconfigures Windows
XP Professional."

I have Windows XP, Office came installed and I also have SP2. I do not have
XP Pro. If I go through the "cancel" process, I am able to eventually open
other Office programs but not Word.

I have uninstalled Adobe but all system restore points were removed so I
can't go back to an earlier time.

ANY help that can be provided would be very appreciated. I have files that I
need to get to and am not sure what steps to take to rectify this situation.
By the way, I am the farthest thing from a "pro" so hopefully, there is an
easy solution.

Thanks in advance.

Hey,

Thanks for asking.

The program file is Office 10. I can't get into Word to check but I think
it's 2003.

When I click on any of the Office programs, including Word, I get a message
from Windows Installer saying the XP Pro is reconfiguring my system. When
hitting "cancel" a few times, I can access all the programs except Word.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot. If it doesn't work I'm afraid the next step will
be to see if a computer bounces when you drop it on the floor! Thanks for
your help.

Tried that site but nothing was applicable. Any other help from someone who
has gone through this would be most appreciated and thanks for the efforts
garfield.

Office 10 is Office 2002 (XP).
What happens if you let the installer complete its reconfiguration?
