Hi,

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me. When I try to open Outlook I
get the message: "Unable to open your default e-mail folders. ...
Outlook.pst is in use and could not be accessed."

I check the processes running in task manager and there is no outlook
running. I have rebooted but the same message. I did an office fix from the
add/remove programs in control panel but still the same message.

Is there a backup of the outlook.pst that I could substitute for the
original?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Can you rename the Outlook.PST file and see if something else has it open?

I solved my problem. I was reading in some other postings how anti-virus
could block Outlook from opening. It wasn't my anti-virus but Spybot. I
closed the resident Spybot, opened Outlook and reran Spybot and everything
was fine.

Thanks for responding so soon.

Are you on a network, and is the PST file located on a non-local drive?

No, not unless you made one...

I was unable to copy or delete Outlook.pst - I always got an error message
that the file was in use. What finally worked was to open Windows in
safemode, open Outlook and save out a .pst file. I rebooted, renamed my
copied .pst file to outlook.pst and copied it over the original (I still was
unable to delete the original). Outlook is now working again. Hopefully this
doesn't keep happening.

I also uninstalled and deleted all of the Spybot files and then reinstalled
them. I don't know if this was part of the fix or not. After the re-install
I was not able to open Outlook until I copied the .pst file in safemode.

Thanks for your suggestion.
