Can't open Outlook 2000 or Outlook Express 6

I am on a Windows 98 SE PC with Microsoft Office 2000 Professional.

I did some PC maintenance and cleaning today. I uninstalled some old
programs. Then I did a ScanDisk and Defrag. I regularly run Norton
anti-virus and AdAware and SpyBot.

Now when I try to open Outlook 2000, it displays the screen like it's
going to open but the PC just grinds and I finally do a
Ctrl+Alt+Delete and it says "Outlook not responding".

I ran System File Checker and 3 files were corrupt and restored:
BLNMGR.DLL, PACKNGO.DLL, and MSROUTE.DLL. I went into PowerPoint and
did a Detect and Repair and that worked OK. Tried to open Outlook
again but it just grinds away.

Since I couldn't get into Outlook in order to get to Outlook Express,
I opened Internet Explorer and clicked on Tools | Mail and News | Read
News. Outlook Express opened OK, I clicked on
microsoft.public.outlook, messages loaded. I then clicked on New Post
and it just grinds like Outlook did. Again I did a Ctrl+Alt+Delete
and it said "Outlook Express not responding". So I'm doing this from
Google Groups.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I guess I shouldn't uninstall things. If it ain't broke don't fix it
.... right? Well, it's broke now.

Help!
Debbie

Debbie, If I were you I would re-install Office..that's the easiest thing to
do at this point.

I wish it were the easiest thing to do.

I have gone to the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, clicked on
Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional, tried Repair and Reinstall.
Both get so far and then they just lock up. I do a Ctrl+Alt+Delete
and it says "Not Responding" so I have to End Task.

I ran the Inbox Repair Tool. It ran fine until I clicked the Repair
button and it locked up ... "Not Responding".

I tried renaming the outcmd.dat file but still couldn't open Outlook.

I tried renaming the extend.dat file but still couldn't open Outlook.

I tried running the program with the /safe switch but still couldn't
open Outlook.

I tried running the program with the /cleanviews switch but still
couldn't open Outlook.

I tried moving my .pst file somewhere else and trying to open Outlook.
It let me create a new .pst file but then I got an error message:

An OLE registration error occurred. The program is not correctly
installed. Run setup again for the program.

I don't know what to do now. If I totally uninstall Office, will I
lose everything in Outlook? If I copy the outlook.pst file is that
all I need to save all of my information in Outlook?

I'm totally frustrated ... I've been working on this off and on all
day!

Thanks,
Debbie

I finally got it fixed.

I tried the "Add or Remove Features" and clicked on "Not Available" and that
uninstalled Outlook. I then went into that same place and clicked on "Run
from my computer" and it installed Outlook. I don't know why it worked but
it did.

I also finally got the pst file repaired.

All is good again.
